The restaurant industry is changing.

Most people now divide recent history into pre- and post-pandemic. Regardless of one’s perspective on the pandemic, it is inarguable that it changed human behavior, and one of the most-impacted behaviors/industries is the culinary world. Ever-evolving, top-down mandates on the packaging, health codes, and number of people at gatherings forced restaurateurs to demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and improvisation. Then came logistics and supply-chain shortages of certain items– and inflation. Bex Kitchen has been around since 2009 and weathered challenges tenaciously. A restaurant is particularly held accountable for its consistency over time – in service, in quality, in experience – but also has to keep up with trends, progress, and the unforeseen. Thankfully, Bex Kitchen has expertise in its three core specialties: corporate and private catering, event packages available at the new Bex Gallery, and the Bex Cafe. 

 

Accelerating Technology

Toast is a software application used by restaurants to provide a customer-restaurant interface, help a restaurant with its inventory, and more. With four different generations of people currently in the societal mix, ordering food with push-button technology needs to be intuitive and streamlined. Rising labor costs can be alleviated by automating certain aspects of the industry, which Bex is moving toward while still retaining its core values. 

 

Sweet or Savory, There’s a Package for You 

Chef Becky comes from humble beginnings and knows that people have limited budgets to work with. The Just Enough Package allows you to choose from one of five delicious and varied egg dishes, a scrumptious brunch specialty, and more, including an exotic dessert, such as Hummingbird Cake. This cake is Jamaican in origin and gets its name from the national bird of Jamaica, which Jamaicans call a “doctor bird.” So this cake is a “doctor bird cake.”  “The Hummingbird Cake sings SPRING to me,” Chef Becky says of the Caribbean confection that migrated north into the American South. She first encountered Hummingbird Cake in her formative pastry chef days. “It’s a classic Southern cake but also provides an opportunity to be creative,” she elaborates, “and that’s how I approach good food: it has a solid foundation yet can be taken in different creative directions.”   

 

The Just Enough Package is for the light nosher or grazer who is looking for a lean but mean meal.

The Enough Package adds a hearty side to the above, such as Crispy Bacon or Bex’s addictive Breakfast Potatoes with Onion and Pepper, a tried & true flavor combination. 

The More than Enough Package is exactly as it sounds, with expanded options, and The Plenty Package will make sure your event is a cornucopia of sustenance. One nice thing about all the Packages is they feature Baked Goods that offer not only the sweet but the savory as well, such as the Ham + Gruyere Croissant, where two bold flavors meet in a light, buttery bread. catering breakfast

 

Grain: From Millstone to Magnificent  

All packages come with a soup or salad option, with salads incorporating sophisticated grains like farro and tabbouleh. The former is an ancient grain with a superior nuttiness and chew texture, and the latter has as many variations on its spelling as “barbeque”! “Grains in salads provide a nice texture and variety so that it’s not just all vegetables,” the Chef says, illuminating just how much attention to detail she puts into even the most standard of fare.
